She graduated in Chemistry in 1990 and she got the PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1994. From 1995 to 2004 she has been Researcher at the University of Roma "La Sapienza". In January 2005 she became Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Roma "La Sapienza".
She won an award from Enimont for the degree curriculum in 1990, the award "Federchimica - per un futuro intelligente" for her degree thesis in 1991 and she won the "Young Scientist Award" of the International XAFS Society in 2003. From 1999 she is referee of several international Journals and she is referee for the "Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory". In 1999 she organized the workshop "Advanced Training Course in the use of Fluorescence X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy in Biology.", Hamburg (Germany).
Her main research activity regards the development and the execution of the X-ray absorption spectroscopy performed at international synchrotron radiation facilities Frascati, LURE, HASYLAB, and ESRF and Molecular dynamics simulation studies in liquid state.
